Veterans' Health Fall 2000

Spotlight On:
The Maplewood
CBOC

Although you can find VA community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) throughout the entire VA Upper Midwest Health Care Network, the Maplewood, Minnesota, CBOC is unique for being the first CBOC in our Network to open in such a large metropolitan area.

The Maplewood CBOC has been serving veterans from Washington, Ramsey, Chisago and other metropolitan counties near the Twin Cities since September 1999. The clinic is staffed by a team of providers skilled in delivering primary care services, including outpatient medical care for the purposes of prevention and detection of disease, treatment of minor injury and management of medical conditions. Veterans requiring more extensive care will be transferred to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.

Wanted: Study Participants

The reduction of Smoking in Cardiac Disease Patients Study (ROSCAP) is designed to find out if people with heart disease will benefit from cutting down on smoking. If you are...

  • between the ages of 18 and 80
  • have a history of heart disease
  • smoke at least 15 cigarettes a day

and are interested in participating in the study, call Study Coordinator Pat Swenson-Green at (612) 725-2120. The study is open to veterans who receive their health care at the Minneapolis VA.

Community response to the Maplewood CBOC has been overwhelmingly positive during its initial year of operation, and a steady rate of growth is expected as more veterans discover the clinic.

CBOCs offer veterans from all over the region greater choice and convenience to access the VA's high-quality medical services. Contact your nearest VA Medical Center to find out where the closest CBOC is to you.

The Maplewood CBOC is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To find out more about this clinic and if you are eligible for care there, call Clinic Support Operations at the Minneapolis VAMC, (612) 725-2206.
